That's what is happening inside our building. Spend some time outdoors and you're liable to see groups of students gathered around the Civil War Monument with our Education Coordinator, or historical re-enactors portraying famous characters of the past in our park. Perhaps you've also seen the trolley wending its way along streets lined with charming old homes or passing by the sites of old industries that made Fitchburg famous. We're excited about the old and the new Fitchburg, and we enjoy sharing it with you.

Students above right, unravel mysteries of the past by
digging artifacts at the Society's archaelogical digs.

When the Fitchburg Historical Society was first founded in 1892, it met in people's homes. In 1912 they built our beautiful headquarters at 50 Grove Street. This georgian Revival building has served the Society well for nearly a century. With expanding collections and increasing demands for new services in the twenty-first century, the Society requires additional and improved space. How we preserve our collections and at the same time secure the future of the Fitchburg Historical Society is the focus of this brochure.
